In the first quarter of 2024, the top 5 communication apps in Ghana exhibited notable performance trends on a unified platform, according to data from Sensor Tower. Here’s a closer look at the weekly downloads, revenue, and active users for these apps.

WhatsApp Messenger saw a dynamic quarter with weekly downloads starting at around 170K in early January and peaking at approximately 255K by the end of March. Weekly active users fluctuated but remained robust, moving from about 5.6M at the beginning to nearly 5.8M by the end.

WhatsApp Business experienced varying download numbers, beginning at around 96K and reaching a high of 163K early in the quarter before stabilizing to about 126K by late March. Active users showed consistent engagement, rising from approximately 3.3M to 3.5M over the quarter.

Messenger had an interesting download trajectory, starting with around 32K and surging to a remarkable 339K towards the end of March. Active user figures also increased significantly, from about 5.7M to nearly 6.9M, indicating strong user retention and growth.

Snapchat maintained steady weekly downloads, ranging from approximately 47K to a peak of nearly 70K by the end of March. Revenue was modest but stable, with weekly earnings around $1.4K. Active users grew steadily from about 3.4M to 3.8M, showcasing increasing user engagement.

Opera Mini: Fast Web Browser demonstrated a varied download pattern, starting at around 33K in early January and experiencing fluctuations, ending at around 21K by late March. Active users saw a slight decline from about 512K to 435K. Revenue remained low but showed minor fluctuations throughout the quarter.
